INTEGRATED HELICOPTER PROGRAM (MYH)

ABOUT THE PROGRAM

In 2025, we are proud to offer 14 state-funded YH positions for helicopter training, providing you with the chance to earn a Commercial Pilot License (CPL).

The Integrated Helicopter Program at SPU Flight Academy is designed to equip students with a CPL (H) license and ATPL (H)-level in theoretical knowledge. The program prepares you for an exciting career as a helicopter pilot and the CPL (H) qualifies you to apply for jobs as a single-pilot commander in a commercial setting. You will graduate the program with a type rating to fly the Robinson R44.

The SPU program takes place on-site Monday through Friday 08:00-17:00 with a 100% study pace for approximately 26 months. Included in these 26 months is a workplace training (LIA) in the helicopter industry for 5-6 months. The program combines theoretical classes with practical flight training. Our fleet of aircraft includes Robinson helicopters, specifically the R22 and R44 models, complemented by an EC135 simulator, which is used for parts of the total 135 flight hours required for the CPL (H) license. Eligibility for the program requires completed grades from a Swedish or Nordic upper secondary school (Gymnasieskola).

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

FINANCING DETAILS

This program is govermental sponsored. The program, which starts in August 2025, is a state-funded YH education, meaning the tuition costs are covered by the state.
Students are eligible to apply for CSN financial support for this program. In addition to tuition, there are costs for obtaining an EASA Medical Class 1 certificate, completing the attitude and behavior test and government fees etc. These additional expenses amount to approximately 80,000 SEK and are covered by the student.

ADMISSION PROCESS

The admission process begins with an application at MYH.se

After the application deadline, a selection process will be carried out by representatives from the school and the aviation industry. Interviews and associated tests will be held at SPU at the end of May or the beginning of June.

WORKING AS A HELICOPTER PILOT

The helicopter industry is relatively small and securing job opportunities often requires effort and persistence at the start. With that in mind, it is also a stable industry, less affected by e.g. business cycles as it lacks a large commercial sector like the fixed wing aviation industry. You need to be prepared to possibly relocate and begin with ground-based jobs to build trust before transitioning to the cockpit and further developing your piloting skills.

There are great jobs out there if you are willing to work for them and with the internship (Lärande i arbete), being a part of the YH-program, you are getting a strong foundation to begin your career as a helicopter pilot.

Application is open between
the 17th February to 15th April 2025.
